Whidden
Gunworks is pleased to add CNC Machined Toolheads for
the Dillon 550 and Dillon 650 loaders to our product
line-up!
CNC machining gives the toolhead’s contact surfaces and threaded die positions the proper relative alignments required to mount dies in progressive loaders with maximum precision.
Why won’t your factory toolhead do this? Factory toolheads are designed to be mass-produced to hit a competitive price point in the reloading press market. Consequently, factory toolheads are made as a large batch of castings with little specific attention paid to surface alignment and finishing. By machining our toolheads individually from a solid block of aluminum, we have control over all tolerances and alignments for every part. This individual production makes the CNC Machined Toolhead essential for any reloader.

Here’s
why it works:
All contact surfaces are vitally important to
the function of a reloading press –as they are for any tool, be it a rifle or a wrench. The die mounting positions must be exactly perpendicular to the ram’s axis of force, perfectly positioned in relation to each other, and directly above each of the rotating stations of the press.

In
addition to these requirements for the dies, the
mating surfaces where the toolhead fits into the
press require a great deal of attention. Once the
dies are mounted just right in relation to each other
on the toolhead, they will only be as precise as the
toolhead’s fit in the press. The mounting flange
around the toolhead that engages the frame of the
press has to be machined to ensure that it keeps the
toolhead itself in the correct position in the press.
By machining all of these critical surfaces at one time from a block of aluminum - leaving no surface untouched - we can manufacture to incredibly tight tolerances. The result is that you can know you are maximizing the function of your investment in high-quality dies, a powder measure, a top-of-the-line progressive press, and all of your other reloading accessories. Considering the total cost of the dies and accessories in your toolhead, it makes sense to secure them all with the highest precision possible.
Anyone who wants to use their progressive press to load to the highest standards needs a CNC Machined Toolhead for the ultimate in accuracy!
